Yawp is a peer-reviewed journal whose major aim is to publish high-quality writing by students, both individual or group literary works and academic papers.
Yawp 4, 2009, is the second online issue of USP undergraduate students’ yearly journal in the area of Linguistic and Literary Studies in English. This issue focuses both on the production of creative narratives and on analyses of the relationships between the structures of text, language use, communication, and the production of social meaning and the analysis and the discussion of literary methodology and research. Therefore, Yawp 4 is divided into a creative section, with five original narratives, and an academic section, with twelve unpublished papers.
Yawp is the result of the dedication of an editorial committee of enthusiastic students, with a little help from the organizer of this volume, as well as the careful work of a team of revisers.
So, here’s to you, Yawp reader! You may well judge how successfully the students, again paraphrasing Whitman*, in the journal’s motto, have sounded their barbaric yawp over the roofs of the academy.
